The project Versatile multifunctiOnaL and reUsable nanosystems for lowering emissions by caPture and valorIzation of cArbon dioxide and nitrogen (VOLUPIA- TED2021-132175B-I00) is focused on the preparation of multifunctional materials capable of capturing CO2 for its subsequent valorization, and at the same time, having the potential to fix and transform N2. The multifunctional catalytic systems are based on starting materials with high surface-to-volume ratios, which will be functionalized with specific organometallic complexes for the valorization of CO2 and N2. These unique and versatile platforms of the VOLUPIA project could help reduce the greenhouse effect by lowering CO2 concentrations, producing other carbon-based fuels, and enhancing energy productivity by establishing alternative nitrogen transformation methods.
